Financial
Services Tech Prep
This college-prep business
program is designed for juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing college majors and future careers in finance. Students
explore a broad range of advanced business topics in a fast-paced, interactive environment. Students have the opportunity
to learn many of the latest technology applications used in business today, including Microsoft Office 2007 for business documents,
Adobe CS3 Design Premium for website and publication design, and Windows MovieMaker for video production. Teamwork, effective
communication techniques, and time management skills are learned through extensive involvement in classroom projects and activities.
Students gain valuable leadership skills and have the opportunity to compete at regional, state, and national levels as members
of Business Professionals of America. This is a College Tech Prep program with college articulation agreements through Greater
Cincinnati Tech Prep Consortium.
Intro
to Accounting (new for 2010-11)
This semester course offers students an overview of accounting for small businesses.
Students learn about the financial side of running a business and what it takes to be a profitable and successful enterprise.
Students investigate how a business records transactions, maintains financial records, and prepares financial statements.
Students participate in an entrepreneurship game as part of the course. Students also develop computer skills in Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MovieMaker. This is a core program which prepares students for Financial Services Tech Prep.
This will be a new course offering for the 2010-11 school year.
Intro to Financial Services (new
for 2010-11)
This semester course allows students
to explore a broad range of personal finance topics. Students learn about career choices, budgeting their money, saving and
investing for the future, using credit wisely, and insuring against risk. Students participate in a stock market game as part
of this course. Students also develop computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MovieMaker. This is a core
program which prepares students for Financial Services Tech Prep. This will be a new course offering for the 2010-11 school
year.
Northwest BPA
Students enrolled in Financial Services, Intro to Accounting, or Intro to Financial
Services automatically become members of Business Professionals of America. BPA is a national organization for students interested
in pursuing futures in business. Nationwide, BPA has more than 51,000 members in over 2,300 chapters across 23 states. Northwest
BPA is the largest student organization at our school this year, with about 150 students involved. Being part of BPA will
be one of the most rewarding aspects of your business class. Through this involvement, you will build lasting relationships,
gain real-life skills, participate in competitive events, develop leadership, connect with business people, and have opportunities
to travel to conferences.
